Head Coach Jordan Stewart
On tonight’s win:
“We started off well, obviously scored early, but then there were some sloppy moments. For their goal, it was a transition moment for us and we knew that with Phoenix if you give the ball away in certain areas they can punish you. They have a lot of ability going forward, both out wide and with Cabral in the middle. They managed to get a goal, but at halftime I told the guys you still have the momentum to get the three points. The two sending offs helped us, but all in all another good three points and we just need to keep going with a quick turnaround for the Open Cup on Tuesday.”
On responding to the equalizer:
“After the Oakland game being one zero down, the guys now know the confidence they possess to score goals. We have goal scorers and we have the ability to be aggressive and to create opportunities. Obviously as a defender you want to keep clean sheets so always a bit disappointed with that but it was another good performance, another win at home. The crowd always helps when you’re on a run so all in all another good three points.”
On the output of goals:
“A big part is that we changed formation after the first game, but even in this game we changed formation after about 25 minutes in the first half. Being adaptable and knowing what we do in the training round is an easy adaptation because of how much we practice. Credit to the guys that are able to take in information and use it on the field which is huge. You can draw up any type of diagram in the locker room but at the end of the day it’s in-game moments that you have to get right. They know that now, they know our style and they have the confidence it it now”
Forward Anton Søjberg
On his goal:
“Well they were down to nine men at the time. I just saw the ball pushed out to Miles [Lyons} after some second balls. It was played out to the side and I just got into the box. I was lucky enough that he saw me in an open spot and then I was lucky enough to head it in. He found me, it was good.”
On his emotions after scoring:
“It was emotional, I was happy about it. I didn’t score last time and I love scoring goals – that’s what I do, so I was really happy about it.”
On getting the win:
“It was really good as a team. Now three times in a row, we can build on it. We deserve it, we’ve been through a tough preseason. Everyone has worked their asses off and now we get the benefit of it. We have a big squad and a lot of the guys that come in, especially the guys that came in last time, they do a very good job. It’s a victory for the whole team.”
