MONTEREY BAY COMPLETES TRANSFER FOR FORWARD TRISTAN TRAGER FROM CHARLESTON BATTERY
SEASIDE, California (Wednesday, January 31, 2024) – Monterey Bay Football Club (Monterey Bay F.C.) announces today that the Club has acquired forward Tristan Trager via transfer from Eastern Conference side Charleston Battery for an undisclosed fee ahead of the 2024 USL Championship regular season, pending league and federation approval. The move fills a much-needed role in the attack for the Union as the roster continues to take shape in the midst of preseason training.
“I’ve been tracking Tristan for 18 months now, since he was in Atlanta. We even talked last year about coming here, so It’s great to finally get him,” said Monterey Bay F.C. Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop. “Tristan is a good young talent and has good traits. He is good in the open play – he’s dangerous on the break and is a proven goalscorer when he gets his chances. He is really going to help us. We are excited to have him.”
Trager, 24, was selected 47th overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft by Atlanta United on January 11, 2022, but chose to return for his senior season at Air Force before signing his first professional contract. That day came nearly six months later on June 1, 2022, when he signed with Atlanta United 2. Though he joined United 2 midway through the season, Trager started 17 of his 22 total appearances and recorded an impressive eight goals and two assists. In 2023, Trager signed with Charleston Battery and scored six goals and one assist in 33 appearances across all competitions to help the side to an Eastern Conference title and an appearance in the 2023 USL Championship Final. Now, the San Clemente, California native returns to his home state on the West coast as a member of Monterey Bay.
“I’m extremely excited to be joining Monterey Bay and help take this club to the next level. I love the play style Frank provides and I believe it will help maximize my potential,” said Trager. “It’s a blessing to be coming home to California and being close to my fiancée and family while continuing my professional career. My goals for the team are to make a deep run in the playoffs and see how far this group can go. Personally, I would like to provide as many goals and assists as I can to create dangerous moments in our attack.”
A Geospatial Science graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Trager recorded 27 goals and 13 assists in 57 matches during his four years with the Falcons. During his collegiate career, Trager earned several honors including two First-Team All-WAC honors, an All-WAC Honorable Mention, and Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Offensive Player of the Year his senior season. Trager finished his career at the Air Force in the top-10 all-time in goals, assists, and points.
