MONTEREY BAY F.C. WELCOMES EXPANSION SIDE RHODE ISLAND FC TO SEASIDE FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON FIXTURE

SEASIDE, California (Saturday, March 23, 2024) – Monterey Bay F.C. (1-0-1, 4 points) welcomes league newcomers Rhode Island FC (0-0-1, 1 point) for an early afternoon 3 p.m. PT kickoff on Sunday, March 24 at Cardinale Stadium in Week 3 of the 2024 USL Championship regular season. The match will be broadcast locally via KION on Central Coast CW (35.1 over the air, channel 14 Xfinity), with live streaming available on ESPN+ or listen live on SiriusXM FC Channel 157.

Monterey Bay takes on the newest expansion side in the Eastern Conference, Rhode Island FC this Sunday in the inaugural matchup between the sides at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside. Coming off of two great performances that earned the team four points in a four-day span on the back of 176 consecutive shutout minutes and counting, Monterey Bay enters the Sunday matinee match with rising confidence.

“Last week was a good job by everybody in the team, we showed good togetherness, and hopefully it continues this weekend,” said Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop. “We’re going to be playing against a good team on Sunday, they have some good players in their lineup. They have the top scorer from last year, Albert Dikwa. So it’s a tough team. Every game is hard in this league and they are no different. I expect us to come out with the same energy and togetherness and then hopefully we can have a great result in this game.”

On the other side, Rhode Island FC makes its first-ever road trip to the Central Coast after playing to a point in its inaugural match the weekend prior – a game in which RIFC came from behind to equalize two minutes into stoppage time. Following the week’s fixtures, Rhode Island’s 24-year-old midfielder Clay Holstad joined the Union’s Frank Yallop – named USL Championship’s Coach of the Week – and Rafa Baca (Player of the Week) on the league’s Team of the Week for Week 2.
