Carlos Herrera, Alex Lara Named to Team of the Week Bench for Week 24
SEASIDE, Calif. (Tuesday, August 22, 2023) – Following the Club’s shutout draw on the road against the reigning USL Championship title winners San Antonio FC, goalkeeper Carlos Herrera and defender Alex Lara have been named to the USL Championship Team of the Week bench for Week 24 of the 2023 regular season.
Herrera receives his first Team of the Week honorable mention of the season for his performance between the sticks in a tough environment on the road. The 25-year-old goalkeeper earned his first clean sheet of the season with a seven-save performance against the highest scoring team in the league in their house. It was the second-highest number of saves in a single match in Herrera’s career, the highest being the inaugural season finale in Edinburg against Rio Grande Valley FC last October in which he had eight.
Lara also makes his first appearance on the Team of the Week bench as a reward for his key performance in the Club’s clean sheet against San Antonio FC at Toyota Field over the weekend. The 24-year-old defender won 12 duels on the night and added four interceptions, three tackles, two clearances and one blocked shot.
