SEASIDE, California (Friday, July 1, 2022) – Monterey Bay F.C. hosts New Mexico United on First Responders Night at Cardinale Stadium in Week 17 of the USL Championship regular season on Saturday, July 2 for the first-ever meeting between the two sides. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT and can be streamed live on ESPN+.

Connections: Monterey Bay F.C. has several player-to-player connections with New Mexico United, starting with Union midfielder Sam Gleadle, who spent time as teammates with Chris Wehan at Reno 1868 in 2018 while the latter was on loan with the club. Gleadle then saw now-New Mexico midfielder Sergio Rivas join him in Reno for the 2019-2020 campaigns. Other connections are Chris Cortez and New Mexico’s Sam Hamilton teaming up at Phoenix Rising FC in 2017, Hugh Roberts and New Mexico’s Neco Brett both playing for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in 2018, and Mobi Fehr spending the 2019 season as teammates with then-loanee, now New Mexico forward Tabort Etaka Preston at Las Vegas Lights FC.
Opponent’s Previous Match: New Mexico United’s previous match took place at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico against Birmingham Legion FC. The Legion took control of the match in the first half and never looked back. Goals in the 21st and 30th minutes by Juan Agudelo and Enzo Martinez were enough to give the visitors the victory on the road, ending New Mexico United’s four-game winning streak at the time.
Notes: The match will mark the first-ever meeting between the Union and New Mexico. The Union are looking to snap a four-game losing streak, while New Mexico United looks to continue its form, having won four of its last five. Monterey Bay F.C. is 2-4-0 all-time at home, while New Mexico United is 21-21-13 all-time on the road.
