IRVINE, California (Friday, July 8, 2022) – Monterey Bay F.C. travels to Irvine, California to face Orange County SC at Championship Soccer Stadium in Week 18 of the 2022 USL Championship regular season on Saturday, July 9 in the first-ever meeting between the California clubs. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT and can be streamed live on ESPN+.

Connections: While at Reno 1868 during the 2018-2019 campaigns, Monterey Bay F.C. midfielder Sam Gleadle played with three current Orange County SC midfielders, Seth Casiple, Kevin Partida, and Brent Anthony Richards. In addition, Union midfielder Arun Basuljevic and goalkeeper Rafael Diaz both played with Orange County defender Hassan Ndam at New York Red Bulls II in 2017. Lastly, Monterey Bay F.C. forward Jason Johnson spent the 2021 season as teammates with Orange County forward Sean Okoli at Austin Bold.
Opponent’s Previous Match: In Orange County SC’s previous match, the side made the trip to Chandler, Arizona to take on Phoenix Rising FC at Wild Horse Pass Stadium. Milan Iloski gave the visitors the opening lead in the 6th minute of the match, but an own goal by Orange County leveled the score just before the half. Iloski bagged his brace in the 52 minute to give the visitors the 2-1, but two red cards in the 80th and 81st minutes left Orange County with 9 men for the final stretch. With a two-man advantage In the dying moments of the match, Phoenix Rising FC forward Richmond Antwi scored the equalizer for the hosts and the match ended 2-2.
Notes: In what will be the first-ever regular-season meeting between the sides, both the Union and Orange County will look to curb its respective five-match winless streaks. Monterey Bay F.C. is 2-7-0 all-time on the road, while Orange County SC is 73-48-34 all-time as hosts.
