SEASIDE, Calif. —
The Central Coast's newest professional soccer team, Monterey Bay Football Club, is hiring local soccer star Ramiro Corrales.
Corrales will serve as the team's technical advisor and help to build the team's roster under sporting director, Frank Yallop.
A North Salinas High School graduate, Corrales' professional career began in 1996 when he was drafted by the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer. After several years in the league, Corrales joined the San Jose Earthquakes in 2001 and won a championship with the team. Corrales and the Quakes would win another championship in 2003 under the leadership of former coach and now sporting director, Frank Yallop.
"Salinas is where I started my career, so to return to it, and help build something special for the community and my hometown, with a mentor such as Frank Yallop, is a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Corrales.
Corrales also played on the United States Men's National Team. He earned six caps for the team and appeared in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Monterey Bay F.C. will play the USL Championship. The team will host games at Freeman Stadium on the CSU Monterey Bay campus. Monterey Bay F.C. will take the field in 2022.
