Records: Monterey Bay F.C. (2-6-0, 6 points); Rio Grande Valley FC (3-6-0, 9 points)
Connections: Monterey Bay F.C. midfielder James Murphy spent the past two seasons in Texas with Rio Grande Valley FC from 2020-2021. Defender Grant Robinson also has a connection to the side, as he joined Murphy at the Toros for the 2021 campaign that saw the squad reach the Western Conference Semifinals. In addition, defender Kai Greene began his professional career with the Toros in 2016 and went on to play three seasons with the club through 2018.
Opponent’s Previous Match: The Toros traveled to Colorado Springs in their previous match to take on Switchbacks FC at Weidner Field. In a first half filled with yellow card cautions for both sides, the hosts took the opening lead just minutes before the halftime break before doubling it seven minutes into the second. In the 64th minute, Rio Grande Valley FC was forced into an own goal and found themselves down 3-0 on the road. Then over a three-minute span between the 76th minute and the 79th, the Toros pulled two goals back to make it a close match late. Two minutes later, the Switchbacks were shown a red card, but despite being down a man the home side held the visitors off and the Toros fell 3-2.
Notes: Right back at Cardinale Stadium following last weekend’s home-opening victory over Las Vegas Lights FC, the Crisp and Kelp will look to ride momentum into its match with the Toros and earn consecutive results for the first time this season. Monterey Bay F.C. is 1-0-0 all-time as hosts, while Rio Grande Valley FC is 20-47-25 all-time on the road.
