Monterey Bay F.C. Drops Match at Home to San Antonio FC
SEASIDE, California (Saturday, April 1, 2023) – Monterey Bay F.C. (1-2-1, 4 points) fell 2-1 to the defending USL Championship Title Winners San Antonio FC (3-0-1, 10 points) at Cardinale Stadium, presented by Coastal Paving & Excavating. Sam Gleadle scored the lone goal for Monterey Bay F.C. on the night, finish off a chance assisted by Chase Boone in the second half.

The visitors struck first and early in the match with a goal in the eighth minute. An attack down the right side of the pitch for San Antonio ended in a Niko Hansen slotting the ball under the goalkeeper and across the line for the opening score. Monterey Bay F.C. pushed up the right sideline in the 38th minute of the match to earn the second corner of the night. Alex Lara rose up in the box and beat everyone to the ball for a snap header, but a diving one-handed save at the far post by Jordan Farr kept the Union off the board. San Antonio looked to double its lead in the first minute of first half stoppage time, but the header inside the box was wide of the right post and the half ended with San Antonio in front 1-0.
Monterey Bay F.C. leveled the match in the 63rd minute when Morey Doner found Alex Dixon in space in the middle of the pitch. Dixon immediately found Boone making a run down the right side of the pitch. Boone then whipped a ball into the box toward Gleadle, who tucked it inside the right post to bring the scoreline to 1-1. With five minutes to play in regular time, San Antonio FC broke down the Union defense and Zico Bailey whipped a ball into the top left corner of the box to steal back the lead and give the visitors the 2-1 win.
